Bodfish, California Ghost Tales | |
|
|
This is more a curious occurrence than an actual sighting. A couple of years ago I purchased a double-wide mobile home on 2.5 acres of land located on a hill overlooking Bodfish and Lake Isabella. The previous owner was an old woman whose husband (William) had died recently while working on the property. She had found him slumped over the controls of his bucket tractor. One day, not long after I moved in I noticed 3 or 4 small clippings removed from the hedgerow at the rear of the house and placed in a very orderly fashion upon the rear steps of the house. I examined them closely and it was

clear that they had been cut rather than pulled from the shrubs. The edges of the little branches were clean and sharp. There are no kids nearby and I've never caught any of my neighbors walking around

the property so I wasn't really able to figure out how this might have happened. I few weeks later, the same thing: A few cut tips of the rear shrubs were laid together in an orderly fashion on my back steps. Again, the same clean cut edges. This happened several times over the next few months and it really had me scratching my head. One day when I was doing a routine sprinkler maintainance check, I discovered that the sprinklers that watered the rear hedgerow were connected to an additional sprinkler run that also watered some trees above the house up on the hillside. Yet when I went looking

for the heads, I could not find them. I did some digging and found the heads and saw that they did not work. I did some more digging and found several places where the buried pipes were broken and were
leaking water slowly in various places on the hillside. I repaired the pipes and replaced some sprinkler heads so that the hillside trees were getting water. From that day forward I have never seen
the clippings appear on my back steps. Could this have been William's way of alerting me of the broken sprinkler pipes? In Bodfish, it is very important to have green trees and shrubs surrounding the
house because this is a very fire-prone area, especially if your house borders wild land like mine does. Perhaps William had been hanging around long enough to make sure I would properly look after the
place? After all, it was he who had bought the raw land back in the early 80's and had built the homestead so he and his wife could retire. Submitted by Jar
