We lived at NTC during October 2010 to April 2013 in permanent housing at the Desert Winds Community, so we have had plenty of time to have all the experiences that we did. When we moved to Ft Irwin we never heard about the paranormal history within and around the location. Oddly enough, things started to happen almost immediately upon moving in and went all throughout the entire stay on post.
The first incident (again, during our move in) involved a photo album being tossed off our dresser. I heard a loud thud and figured something fell, so I went upstairs to find a small photo album had been thrown onto the floor. I didn't think much of it and figured maybe it was knocked off by wind, (perhaps I left the window open?) but to my discovery, no windows were open. I thought it was a bit odd considering it wasn't heavy enough to make as loud of a noise as it did. Nothing major, so I quickly wrote it off as some weird cause.
Later we started to hear a lot of footsteps upstairs, to which visiting family have also had the opportunity to experience. My husband had an incident when he fell asleep in the living room to be woken up by what sounded like the flicking of the light switch on and off. That same night, he swore he saw a shadow of someone standing over him when he was still lying on the couch. There was one room in particular that I personally always felt uneasy in, but it was seldom used.
Another occurrence was in the master bedroom. The layout of this room had a vanity area that opened up to the bedroom itself with a closed room with a toilet and shower. We would get the sporadic smell of cigarettes that would be near the bathroom area and travel into the bedroom but immediately disperse just before you hit the door. Upstairs, in general, we would commonly get what seemed like residual activity. Again it would start at the master bedroom and what seemed like something or someone was doing checks to each room before heading down the stairs. You would hear the footsteps pace around to each bedroom and down the steps. So again, nothing especially alarming (at least in our opinion) but noticeable to start wondering what was going on and for us to slowly put the pieces together.
There was one incident that involved the room I would get uncomfortable in. During an argument I went to sleep in this room. The door was shut, and late at night I heard footstep in the hallway and the door handle rattling. Thinking it was my husband to tell me to get over whatever it was I was upset about, I waited for him to open the door, but to my surprise he never did. I only found out the next day that he never went to check on me (hahahaha, jerk. ) Later my husband would also experience similar situations.
