Comment by anonymous: It is believed that the crosses are a protecting thing that they put in the homes to ward off evil spirits, do not be intimidated, be strong tell it who is boss tell it to leave and state that it is your home not theirs. Be firm and they will leave.

I lived on base at Fort Irwin in the older housing I had a cross in every closet carved into the plaster never noticed until my neighbor was moving out across the street cleaning her quarter and had only one in her closet.
I went to chaplain to inquire about it he didn't know what that was about. Does anybody know what's with the crosses ?.

Comment by Jill: When I lived there I was told that it either meant someone died there or previous tenants crosses it as a signal to the new resident that the house or room was haunted.
