I lived in Gustine on Edith Drive for many years. Sigh. Every single local will tell you the place is haunted. Pick a generation, and they will tell you of the beast of Gustine the Stand Byers on the side of the road leading away or multiple ghost stories in houses. My story is a long one: black silhouettes walking down the hallways and a female voice calling my sister and I to the garage in the summer during the day.
The scariest one for myself (and there are many to choose from) happened one day in summer in a newly enclosed room that was a back porch turned to sun room. There was a futon pressed against the wall with a blanket stuck in-between the back of it and the wall. My sister and I were jumping over the backing of it. Then I looked down into the blanket. There was a lot of light in the room. We could make out all the features behind the futon except the dead center of the blanket where there was a hole in it. Pitch black in the center. It gave me the creeps. Still distracted by whatever game we were playing, so I jumped to the front then back over where my leg past my knee went into the dead center of the blanket. Thousands of what felt like fingers were grabbing at my toes, foot and leg were pulling me into it.
I freaked out hard. My sister was like ''why are you crying? What's wrong?'' Then she pulled me back over to the front of the futon. I explained what happened. She looked behind the futon into the blanket. She said ''nah, you're lying.'' I replied ''put your foot into there then''. She looked hesitant and paused for a long while maybe a minute. Then she finally said ''fine!'' She stomped into the blanket, and her leg fell through entirely. She was screaming and crying.
My mom ran in. We were terrified as we yelled that something was back there in the blanket. Mom said something a long the lines of ''shut up you wusses. There's nothing back there but a blanket''. She went to pick it up. Then she stopped, saying ''man that is like really pitch black''. Then she grabbed it and threw it all over the place, saying ''see there is nothing there''.
However, to this day my sister and I agree on this. we argue with anyone that thinks we are lying. We are in our early thirties now, by the way. There are many other experiences that we have had in Gustine, together and separate. To the damn place is haunted. Especially by Olm and Old School road. (Heck, the valley in general).
