I grew up in Riverkern on Bull Run Road. I lived in a house that was built in the 50's and I was there for 17 years of my life. Our home was quiet when I was younger, but once we had added on to it, strange things began happening.
The area there is full of old Native American evidence, but no real records have been traced to indicate if there was ever a burial ground or a sacred place of worship that was once there. If you get a chance to walk the neighborhood at night, there is a definite feel of something there, especially on the Cowbell Road side.
I have countless tales of weird noises that would keep me awake at night. I often would wake up feeling very sick and terrified that I was not alone. None of these things began until I was about 7 years old. I woke up in the middle of the night to see what looked like the silhouette of a pioneer woman. Her figure was a dark shape. She hovered above the ground and seemed to be motioning with her finger for me to come with her. I tried to yell for my mom, but I was so scared that no words came out. With her in front of the doorway, I did the only thing I could. I rolled over with my back to her, and I went back to sleep.
We were adding onto our house and to do so, the extension was built in the back yard. None of my 7 siblings ever wanted to venture into the back yard at night, and the new part of the house had the same feel to it. Once the build was complete, I was pout into a new bedroom with one of my sisters. Our room was in the new part of the house.
At first, it was just a creepy feeling that existed. Then, noises began. One incident that I will never forget was when my sister's friend was over. We were sitting in front of our closet on the floor in a circle tasking. My mom walked past the door and as she did, a loud bang came from the closet. We asked my mom what she had thrown our way. ''Nothing'' was her response. We thought she was playing so we continued to question her. My mom is not one to feed into the imagination when the supernatural occurs. Once we were convinced that she was not joking, and that it was not her who had made the noise, we all ran out of the room.
Since that was my bedroom however, I had to return to it, especially at night. While the sister I shared the room with was staying elsewhere, I had another sister back from a church mission who was sleeping in my bed. I don't remember why she had to be in my bed, but that meant that I had to sleep in my other sister's bed. Her bed was near the closet. Every time I would turn off the lamp next to me on the nightstand, I would hear scratching sounds from under the bed. I would turn the light on, and the noise would stop. I looked under the bed. Nothing was there. I had my sister look under the bed. Nothing was there. The sounds became louder and eventually wouldn't stop even when I had the light on. That night I slept with my bible open. The noises stopped when I would do that.
