I've experienced a lot of paranormal activity, (intentionally) but nothing like the one I experienced in Lucerne Valley. Old mines are a favorite pastime of mine and there are a couple of good ones about 20-miles outside the town limits. Located in the mountain range between Lucerne Valley and Barstow, (about 4-rugged miles off hwy 247) It's extremely isolated. In the summertime, when the heat comes, it's completely deserted.

I love the emptiness there, and often had feelings of not being alone. But it was never threatening, until one night I was laying on an ancient concrete slab, looking at the stars. My feet were dangling over the edge. Suddenly, I heard footprints, right in front of me clear as day. Loved it. I started talking to whatever it was. But I must have bored it, because it soon stopped.

Over the next few nights, however, I couldn't stop wondering over its origin. It was that vivid. So I returned. It took a while, but I finally heard the footsteps again. This time they were over by one of the old mines. They started coming straight for me. But I was ready. After all, that's why I was there. Once again I was on the concrete slab, with my legs over the edge. The footsteps stopped about 10-feet away. It was then that I thought my feet must have been on top of an ant hill, as I was suddenly being attacked by hundreds of angry, stinging ants. But I had a flashlight, and there were no ants. But there must have been? I ripped down my pants, expecting to see swarms of the little ants attacking me. One thing was quickly obvious. It wasn't my imagination. There were already hundred of pimple-like blisters spreading all the way up my left leg, clear up to my rib cage. (All within 60-seconds) And they hurt. I knew right then that I was being told to leave now! So I did. Not because I was frightened, but because I was really being hurt by this thing. When I got home, about an hour later, it looked exactly like I had smallpox.
