Many years ago I worked in a store which I later learned had been the town's Early morgue. One morning I went in to work Early to prepare the store for the day's business and was down in the basement putting things away when I heard someone trying to unlock the front door -- the old deadbolt stuck and you had to jiggle the key just right to unlock it. The     front door then opened and closed and I heard the front door blind bang against the door then I heard a woman's voice Call out ''hello! ''. I answered ''hello! I'm downstairs and will be up in a minute. '' I thought it must be the store's owner. Then I heard footsteps walk through the store all the way into the back office. When you're downstairs the floor squeaks loudly when someone upstairs walks across it and I remember thinking how loud it was.
