Comment by Jaime: Hey Mike we also lived on Vernon Avenue in the late 90s. We lived in a house that's now torn down right by Holt Avenue. Incredible things would happen there but likely it was a ghost. Yours sounds a lot more like a non-ghost entity.
Comment by Jean: My family also lived in a house around the same area where you are talking about. Maybe it could be the same house. Did your house have a creepy door to the attic in the garage? Well, we experienced shadows, names being called out, knocking, being watched, singing chains, and keys noises. I'm wondering if we are talking about the same house. I know a lot of family friends who experienced activity on the same block.

I grew up and lived in Montclair from 1968 to 2005. The house we lived in was on Monte Vista Avenue. It was purchased in 1964 by my grandfather as a place for my aunt and her six kids. Then in 1968 my parents bought the house. Previously the house was owned by a woman who lived there with her mentally disabled adult son. The story we heard was that the son died in the house, and the mother passed away a short time later. Events began to take place in the house shortly after my aunt moved in. She claimed that the cover to the opening of the attic would be lifting up and slamming down. She was also locked out of the bedrooms and then a minute later the door just opened. My cousins nicknamed this entity ''Sydney. '' Anytime something strange would happen, they would just say ''Sydney did it!'' There was a canister vacuum in the hall closet that would periodically roll out on its own when there was no possible way it could (it had to be put in sideways to fit. )
