I've lived in Reseda for 22 years, first by the apartments on Baird Avenue right across the street from the Asian market parking lot, then in the neighborhood across Sherman Way on Vanowen and Wilbur. I attended elementary at Reseda Elementary School. All the students there knew of various tales of ghosts and hauntings. I don't remember who told me or if it was true, but in first or second grade we were told of a story of a couple of students from years before that played hide and go seek in the basement and furnace room under one of the hallways at the school.

These kids tragically were locked in and subsequently died. The school always had an eerie feel to it, from the auditorium, to the restrooms, to the black top playground. The neighborhood adjacent to the school was always very scary. The houses on Baird north of Wyandotte were particularly disturbing. A friend of mine lived in one of those homes with the yard sharing a fence with the schoolyard. He always experienced strange noises and bumps and thumps with no explainable origin.

One evening I'll never forget. I was parked in front of his home, and something caught my eye in his yard just in front of his garage which had a carport leading up to it. I can describe it as a bright ball of pure white light. It was like a lightning ball except it was a clear cloudless night, and the sun was out. It was as though a helicopter or plane was landing, but there was neither in sight, and the entire atmosphere was dead silent. The light descended slowly into the yard at an acute angle and continued through his fence into the neighbor's house.

There have always been unsavory ''characters'' walking about the area. Some seem to be under the influence of a substance; others seemed like drifters or derelicts. One evening I had pulled over by the back fence of the schoolyard with a friend to talk in my car. We were about 18 or 19, both girls, so I was wary of my surroundings. I checked my rear view, and the coast was clear, so I turned to face my friend as she continued her story. Then seconds later I had an odd feeling like a pang of panic. I looked up into my rear view to see what I can only describe as a ''man'' with dark obscured features. He wore tattered clothes and walked (or more so stumbled) about under the street light. He was heading directly for my car! He couldn't have been more than 30 feet from me.

I freaked out, turned my car on, and accelerated away as fast as possible. I've lived all my life here. I know we have an unfortunately large homeless and addict population, but this guy gave me such an unsettling vibe that no other had ever given me. I've always lived in LA, always dealt with crazy folks and aggressive addicts. This guy was something else entirely.

The white lady has been seen by a few friends and neighbors over the years. I've seen an all white ghost dog in the neighborhood by Geyser and Hart. It would dart out from behind a car and run across the street only to disappear into another car which was quite startling for me at 2 or 3 am.
