I lived in a house on Natividad Road in 1978 next to a Chinese cemetery. Now there are apartments on the land. There were no apparitions, but figurines would be turned around backwards. Pictures would fly off the walls. Sometimes they would slant sideways to the left or right. When my mom would go to straighten it out, it would immediately fall on the floor. That's not all. Our house was located on the back of the property by the hill that leads down to the field.
Our neighbors in front of us were confined to their beds from sickness, and at night tons of cats would sit outside of their house. They would meow, howl, and hiss while the Venetian blinds would go up and down. The lights would turn off and on over and over. It would spook us. No one would babysit me in the house. If an unfortunate soul was willing, mom said they were usually in the same spot they were in when she left.

The most frightening ghost experiences that I've ever had, and I've had a few happened while I lived in an apartment building located at on W Alisal in Salinas. It was over ten years ago when they were not managed very well; the building was pink/brown and falling apart. Now it seems to look a little nicer. I lived in the front studio apartment on the very corner of W. Alisal and Capitol. It had a door with a cute little circle window. This building has a lot of potential because of the old features that added tons of character, such as the little compartments in the kitchen walls where the milk man use to leave glass milk bottles and what could be a beautiful lobby with a huge staircase to the second floor. I think whatever was haunting this building wanted people to just go away and leave it alone, and so no one has ever taken really good care of it.
Let me tell you. You know the second you walk into the place that something doesn't feel right. It has a very heavy and dark vibe. Being that I was on such a tight budget at the time, I had to just take the apartment and try to make it ''home''. Nope, that only lasted a year before I moved out. My first experience happened not long after I moved in. I was in the shower and heard the deep mumble of a man's voice. I could not make out any words. It just sounded like a mumble, and not a happy one. I dismissed it and tried not to think about it much. But this thing wanted to be known, almost as if it was territorial of the place, like a manager that lived on sight. I started hearing footsteps a lot in the hallway. I would look out, and no one was there. I woke up one night to hear footsteps walking past my bed. I was frozen in fear. It walked over to the window and opened the blinds as if it was looking out!
A few weeks later I again heard the deep mumble of a man's voice, but in the hallway this time at 5 am, and no, no one was out there. My boyfriend heard this thing. My kids heard it as well, and they NEVER wanted to stay there. They would always sleep at their dad's place. Sounds were one thing, but as time went on it, became more aggressive. I woke up in the middle of the night one time to see this gray strange looking ''thing'' over my bed and looking at the TV as if it was watching it! I had fallen asleep with the TV on. I was frozen in fear again and didn't want to move because if it would've noticed I was awake and looked over at me. I think I would've died. And it was strange looking because it was formless, just a mass of gray, but you could see a face. I do not know how I fell back asleep after that.
