Although the ocean seemed uninviting (cold water, dangerous currents, treacherous rocks) , the moon peered brightly through sparse clouds to reveal what appeared to be a man wearing a long-sleeved white shirt, and dark pants walking along the shoreline, about 50 feet north (to our right) of the shore directly in front of us.
''el pescador'' I said to kris, because I assumed he was surf-fishing. We watched him for a few minutes until we lost interest

and when we looked for him again he was gone. During the next 10 minutes or so, he seemed to vanish and reappear several times, then the show started... Directly

in front of us, the man waded out into the water to about waist-high depth. As a wave approached him, he dove into it and emerged through the back side, but was then instantaneously standing on the shore. He again walked into the water, dove through another wave, and was again simultaneously transported to the shore. ''are you seeing what I'm seeing? '' I asked. ''i don't know. I think so,'' said kris.
