Santa Paula, California Ghost Tales I lived in the rock house that you see as soon as you drive in to Steckel Park. I was an intern park ranger from Spring (I think) 1985 until December 1985. At that time, the first floor was an interpretive museum and the office/living space was upstairs. The first spirit I saw was on the first night I was there. I slept on the floor space that was in the room next to the stairs. Sometime in the night I saw a sepia figure of a boy about seven years with a cap fashioned like the kind worn in Ireland or you would see during the thirties. He had suspenders over a light shirt and pants that went to his calves. He was looking down at me (my mattress was on the floor)just checking me out and disappeared. I saw a spirit in the same location months later of an elderly man in his late seventies to eighty-years old with white hair and a long white beard leaning against the stairwell in the same room I saw the little boy. He also had suspenders on - he looked like a ''forty-niner. '' He was very calm and asked me why I was there and a couple other questions       I can't remember. I had my shotgun aimed at him but was groggy. Yes, accident waiting to happen. The sound of my voice answering him was what woke me up. I felt a warm, comfortable feeling coming from him and I put my shotgun down. I realized what had happened and fell back to sleep feeling very safe. I WAS fearful of real people coming in my house   and would often have friends over, hoping they would stay overnight. I had moved into the only bedroom upstairs and was awakened by footsteps coming into my room, walking what would be to the right of my bed if you entered the room, then changing directions and walked toward the left side of the bed. I thought it was a co-worker, who agreed to stay the night. I was thinking that it was a nice try but he was not crawling into my bed. No one was there so I took off running to the first floor and found him sound asleep on the couch. I slept on the floor right next to the couch. The last incident happened the night my supervisor, A Ventura County ranger was killed on his way to pick up the fire report he had me type on November thirteenth 1995, I believe. He asked me if I wanted to ride with him and that this particular park he was going to was so far away and was not looking forward to going. I told him I was very slow typist, and would stay behind to begin the report. I didn't finish in time so I was relieved I still had time after I came back from my night class at Ventura College to complete it. Before I left, I felt something present but thought it was a resident spirit and told it I had to go and didn't have time. My supervisor was in a fatal accident at that time.
