I grew up on olive Avenue in Sierra Madre. It was an old house, and since it was quite large, and required an incredible amount of vacuuming - it was on the market for a couple of years - it remained empty until our family moved in there in 1967.Since I gather that this blog is for more fanciful remarks about bumps in the night - I do not want to recount some of the more sobering events - but I will list a few things that we as a family and as individuals experienced in the 11 years we lived there: 1.Footsteps walking outside the front door in the early hours of the morning (the other residents were particularly active during the full moon) 2. Horses hooves clopping up the driveway in the middle of the night.3. Objects moved across the room. 4. A small child giggling and a small chair rocking - with no one in it - and no cross wind. 5. A small child enclosing their hand around my father's hand as he lay in bed - it was ice cold.6. Pictures on the wall vibrating - with no probable cause. 7. Knocks on the bedroom doors in the middle of the night. 8. An Indian head penny falling from the ceiling - as I complained to my younger brother that ''i never get anything for helping you clean your room'' (its still in my coin collection).9. A sense of being watched - not menacing - just purposeful. 10. House visitors who would ask who a person was that they saw in the hall in the middle of the night... Usually we tried to keep that information within the household, so as not to alarm guests.11. Voices, a man's, a child's and a woman's - sometimes they were arguing. 12. The spectre of a small girl with a large bow on top of her head... No legs, she just glides by. 13. When we sold the house - people came from all over to view the place, the secret had gotten out that there were funny things that happened on olive Avenue (curiously we did suffer from low treat or treat turnouts because people were nervous with our house).14. After 6 years of being away from the house - I returned with a friend, it was late and the house was lit up brightly, but I could see no one. My friend turned to me (we were in my car) and suddenly said ''let's go'', as we turned onto Auburn Avenue he told me that he wanted to leave right away because he felt spooked when the little girl was looking out at him from the window. My response was ; ''what little girl? '' anyway - the place probably is still active - somewhat - but it takes someone with a sense of this to probably feel what we did. I only know that the home had a few different owners after we left. The events that my siblings and I experienced there have remained with us throughout our lives and my sister still gets the Willies when she recalls the empty rocking chair moving. .
