My family and I lived in a very old house in the Sutter Buttes on West Butte Road about two miles south of the Sac. Outing Gun Club. The house was part of the old Brady Ranch, but at the time we lived there (1977-81) it was owned by a gentleman named R. Wilbur. As a young boy of the age of five you usually would like to sleep fairly close to your parents, but they slept upstairs, and I would have none of it. In the southwestern most upstairs room there was a young woman who passed in there. I have no idea from what, but whatever it was she was not happy about it. My parents, my uncle, and friends of my parents who had been in that room had some sort of unexplainable occurrence.

During the evenings right as the sun sets you could look up from outside and see a female tearing at her hair pacing around the room. Even in the summer and it was hotter than hell out there then the room would always stay cold, sometimes to the point of seeing your breath and needing a coat. Downstairs many times furniture would rearrange itself. Drawers would open and close, and contents of drawers would be on counter tops the next morning. That was never scary to me like the upstairs was. Sadly Mr. Wilber passed away, and we moved shortly after.

The next folks who moved in weren't there for long, and shortly after their departure the beautiful old Victorian was torn down. There was a double wide on the spot of the old house now. Two old palm trees marked the entrance to where the house faced. There was a barn that seemed a 1/4mile long shortly passed that on the same property. I have to find pictures from 35 years ago, but I remember my parents always complaining about the camera not taking pictures properly or under or double developed film. I remember the pictures and hope my mom still has some stashed. I also have a picture or two of mist and orbs around Mossen Bridge on Pass Road. I do miss that house but not that damned upstairs!.

In 1963 our family bought a house on Muir Road (Barry School area) after the owner drowned while fishing. His fishing boat was brought back to the property and stayed there for a couple of years before his family reclaimed it. He had turned the garage into a family room that had sliding glass doors which was the most used entry into the house from the driveway. The family room had a wooden accordion door that opened to the kitchen. We would always hear the sliding door open, footsteps walking across the family room, the accordion door open, and the refrigerator (came with the house) door open.

Those were not usual sounds because we were a big family with many friends and an open door policy. You know. They can just walk right in, and if we we're not home, they could just make themselves comfortable - We'll be back soon. However, when we would hear the sounds without a door opening and nobody, we got the picture. The man who drowned did not know he was dead. Strangely, no one was frightened; he just became part of the household routine and the perpetual question ''did you hear him again. '' When we sold the house in 1987, the new owners turned the family room back into a garage, and I always wondered how that affected the dead man's routine.
