I lived in Portland 46 years ago in a haunted house on NE 51st. St. We moved in near Christmas and the noises began immediately. Our dog ran away two days after our moving in. My husband and I separated in March.
I was in the basement doing laundry and happened to look up and there in the floor joist was a book. I took it upstirs and began reading it. It was a deed book which dated fron 1852 and told the history of Portland as well as the histroy of that property.
The home was built in 1921 and was the last remaining portion of land given to an army officer at the end of the Indian wars. He had been given 600 acres which is now within the city of Portland. He was also the first person to jump from the Washington Park bridge.|
His wife was the ghost in the home. I learned by reading that anyone who owned the home and lived in the home was cursed and either the husband or wife died within 6 months or they divorced. We were one of the lucky couples to divorce.
I never believed in ghosts until I lived there. I have often wondered how the families who have lived there since have faired.

Ok this might not be a ''ghost'' story... But it's the creepiest thing that ever happened to me. Well back in 2003 or so I popped into one of those old public restrooms near Burnside not to use it but just out of curiosity.
