house, laughing. This was frightening, and I would stay gone until I knew I would eventually have to come home. My older brother and sisters had friends to board with (one sister stayed a lot at the Applegate House. ) My younger brother went to the babysitter when I got to my room upstairs (the one with the balcony. ) I would close the door, shut the light out, and cover my head. I would then hear heavy but somewhat quiet, as if trying to sneak footsteps

come up the stairs. I used to count the steps walk into my room, then creep down the hall to the other bedroom. Sometimes it would stand at my bedside

a good bit before leaving. In the morning, I would wake up and see my doll lying in the floor twisted up in a way not natural to one just tumbling out of bed (hair ratted up arms and head turned around and so forth. )
However, the bible I slept with was never touched. I never looked to see what paid me these nightly visits. I knew it wasn't a family member, and I just knew better not to. It may have been the man ghost that my brothers saw when
