acts gate to protect us or maybe keep in the restless spirits that habit this area. There has been some very peculiar graffiti on this bridge. As you drive by in your car, you may see what appears under the east end of the bridge to be a homeless man who loiters there. Or is it? Is this the incarnate of a spirit or just a man? There is a road called the ''Devil's Elbow'' in the north part of Renton. The road earned this nickname because of the many tragic car accidents that occurred there, and now it is closed to auto traffic. You can still travel it on foot, if you dare. The houses are fewer and fewer as you travel deeper into heavily wooded landscape of looming trees and tangled vines. The sound of cars fade and is replaced by the gurgle of water from the creek and the foreboding cries of scavenger crows. An eerie feeling, as if you are deep in some lonesome wilderness is at odds at your sensibilities knowing you are so close to the busy city of Renton.

Eventually the road turns into a trail where the pavement is cracked, and weeds have sprouted. Heading south and in the distance houses appear. You have just survived ''The Devil's Elbow,'' and unlike some lived to tell the tale.
