I lived on Whitney Avenue with a ghost. My roommate and I named it Fred. It was in 1985. Just out of college our budget was limited, and I saw an ad for a 2-bed-2-bath ''penthouse'' apartment within our budget. I looked at it and could not believe how big and how nice it was for the price. I called my friend and was able to talk her into committing to the lease sight unseen. It wasn't long before we realized why it was so inexpensive. It had many ghosts.

lived above the apartment. Although we were on the top floor, we heard them night and day. ''Fred'' lived in our apartment. I could write about so many

incidents over the course of the year that we lived there, but I will limit the story to the things Fred did every single day. Each night I would drive by the building to get into the parking lot, and every light in the apartment was on. I could clearly see our pictures on the walls, and there was no mistaking it was our apartment. When I got to the apartment each night the lights would be off. Fred moved a bottle of gin from the cabinet to the refrigerator
