My ex-girlfriend's parents had a summer home in Stonington. It was the oldest house in town built in the late 17th century by Stanton himself for which the town is named, something that I discovered through research. We stayed there a dozen times or more sometimes alone.
I would ask doors to close, and they'd comply. Furniture would move on its own volition. There were footsteps on the stairs when it was just the two of us in the house. I have had

dreams of things that would occur the next day. There was also a feeling of complete dread when crossing the threshold.
It wasn't just that house

though. The entire town is haunted. That's the most haunted place I've ever been. What was most troubling is that the haunting seemed to latch onto me even when I was back in my home in Manhattan. I would be drawn to certain places and very accidentally discover the hand written diary from Stanton's neighbor or a story concerning the invisible spirit that the townsfolk attempted to stone on Main Street. Very bizarre.
