and into the living room. She never made it all the way down the hall. At the end of the hall before the dining room was the bathroom on the left and a door going to the cellar on the right. We kept the cellar door locked but left the skeleton key in the lock.

name was Dave. Dave was a cab driver in Hallowell and not far away, so he said he would be right over. When he arrived Mom told him what had happened.

Well, Mom was still drinking heavy at the time, and Dave thought it was her imagination but said he would stay with her until he got a call. As they talked on the CB, it wasn't long before the mic gave the feedback again. When it did there was another ''bang'' on the cellar door. Mom said ''see, that was what I heard,'' and they both went to the cellar door.
As they watched the doorknob turned one way then the next. At that time Mom's liquid courage
