or 5 inches. When I mentioned it to them they pulled the piano out and opened the back. It was on hinges. Inside the lid was a bunch of signatures. Back in the day piano tuners use to sign the back and date it after they tuned it. Mom noticed that one of the signatures looked familiar and remembered seeing it out in the shed.
You see, in houses that old it was not uncommon to have an outhouse in the shed, and we had a double holer, no longer in use

I'm happy to say. On the walls of the outhouse someone was figuring their taxes or something and had signed it ''Forest Brown,'' the same name that was

on the piano.
My Mom decided she was going to do some research into the house and Forest Brown. I was told (I can't find any proof) what she found was quite interesting. It turned out the house was once owned by Forest and his wife. One day his wife left to visit her mother and never showed up. They never found her or her car. He was never convicted of anything because nothing was ever found.
I believe he killed her and buried her in the cellar.
