Over 20 years back, about 1980s, I was living in Portland and my friend from Gorham said to me I am going to Peaks. I heard my older relative is buried there in the cemetery on the island. So we took the car ferry over and found the cemetery in the middle of the island.
The car was too large to drive through the main entrance so we parked and walked up the dirt / gravel road into the cemetery in the middle of the day. It was a very cold windy day bright and as we were walking up the road we both noticed a woman raking the leaves in the middle of the cemetery.

We both kind of chuckled because it was odd the leaves were piling up around her and it was so windy she wasn't really getting anywhere with the leaves. Even more she was wearing old 1800s outfit we thought she was a little crazy.

We walked into and around the old graves and she was behind us about 50 yards. Then she ask us... Can I help you? We said we are looking for an old uncle ''Slattery''. She said do you mean the captain? Try over there and she points to the corner.
We knew he wasn't a captain but just said thanks and as we turn around to thank her.... She was gone. Nothing. Tombstones too small to hide and she was in the middle of the cemetery.
