My parents' house survived the 1947 fire, although the house has been remodeled and added onto there are still remnants of the old house left. During the additions we removed a lot of the old parts of the house, and we found lots of burn marks in the house from the fire. My father was told that many people fought to save the house and managed to do so, but house pets did die from the fire.
Growing up as a child my bedroom was in the attic.

Going up the stairs, I always looked down at the steps to see where I was stepping because the steps were very narrow and I always fell up the stairs.

Many times I would catch a glimpse of a dog at the top of the stairs, and I always thought at the time it was my parents' beagle. I would yell to get her down the stairs, so she wouldn't fall down them. Next thing I know she would be behind me excited wagging her tail with no possible way for her to get past me down the stairs since the stairway was only wide enough for one person. I always felt my heart in my throat when I would actually look to
