When I was six years old my grandmother Myrtle had died of double pneumonia. My mother and I had lived with her as she was incapable of taking care of herself anymore. I can't remember the name of the street that this happened, but it's the same street as Silver Lake Cemetery just happens to be towards the end across from a large apartment house and near the river and Main Street.
Shortly after my grandmother died (about three days) my mom let me sleep in grandma's room.
Now we never used her closet as it was difficult to open, apparently it was either fitted poorly to the hinges and not square or the paint and humidity caused it to stick. Either way it took too much force to open it, so it wasn't used.

About 3am I was awoken out of a deep sleep because the closet door had slammed open on its own. I was terrified and lay there still listening for any sound to betray the intruder in grandma's room. After a couple of minutes no noise occurred. I peaked over my blankets, and the door was indeed open.

I could feel someone or something staring down at me from the corner over the bed. I started to yell for my mom, but she was sound asleep and didn't hear me. So after some more minutes passed I gathered enough courage to get out of bed to wake my mother. She closed the door, and I slept in my room after that.
A couple of weeks later I was downstairs with the neighbors while mom gathered grandma's things to get rid of. It was my third night of Kraft macaroni and cheese, my favorite.
I ran through the kitchen with the other kids, and the baby sitter turned around to drain the macaroni. As she turned, my head collided with the pan. The boiling contents spilled over my head and caused 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
