When I was growing up in the 1980s I had a co-worker friend that lived in one of the oldest homes in Pembroke. He had many stories that happened in the house over many years, one of which came from his girlfriend who was staying over in his upstairs bedroom. She woke up in the middle of the night and saw the apparition of an old woman who was sitting in a rocking chair right next to the bed staring at her. She screamed, and her boy friend woke up,

and the ghost was gone.
If it were just one or two stories with the same people, I would have a hard time believing it, but this was the whole

family and other people I knew. Another story was of a carpenter and a friend of mine who went over to the house to do some renovation work upstairs. This carpenter was a bear of a man who wasn't easily scared. When he got to the base of the stairs to go upstairs with my friend, he stopped dead in his tracks. He felt cold chills go up his spine, and every hair on his arm stood up. He told my friend he wasn't going any further and had to get out of the
