Comment by Jeff: This story interested me as I am a member of the Whitman family. My grandmother's maiden name was Whitman, and it was the family in which the town was named. So I think I will check my family tree and see what I can learn.

We live on Charles Street. When my oldest daughter was two years old she would ask us about the lady who was sleeping in our bed. She would also see the lady walking around the second floor from time to time and get very nervous when she would walk past our bedroom.
