To this day I'm not sure if it was that boy from so many years ago but still I wave. Submitted by Sarah
Comment by Nick: I live on Rabbot Lane. What house exactly is this? I know the area like the back of my hand.. But I've never heard this before. I'd love to experience this for myself as I love this kind of stuff.

There is a local story that a body was returned after a Civil War battle to a grieving family in Barnstead. The body was so badly battered that the family was advised not to open the coffin but the mother insisted that it should be opened. To the stunned surprise of everyone it contained the body of a Confederate solider, known only to god. The mother insisted that since the soldier was unknown that he be given a place of respect in the family plot next to her son whose body was located and sent home for burial. As long as the parents a and the surviving children lived the grave and placed flowers on it on decoration day. ----another unique thing in Barnstead near the town hall is a Civil War statue whose dress very much resembles a Confederate cavaleryman.
