it. He was enraged, but also careful not to let anyone know of his wife's cheating. He locked her in the attic and fed her scraps from the table. One day, he went upstairs and found that she had hanged herself from one of the rafters. He cut her down, chopped up the body and shoved her up the kitchen fireplace which he stoned up. He told everyone his wife had gone to Virginia to visit her mother and was accidently killed in a buggy accident. Whew,

what a great story this old librarian could weave! We thought, she's been reading too much of her own material. But, some of the things did fit in with

the house, the stoned up kitchen fireplace, the persistent rope in the attic.
After that, we started hearing strange noises from the attic at all hours of the day and night. Our bedroom was upstairs and we would lay awake at night listening to things being dragged across the floor. Squirrels?, maybe. Yes, her story did stir our imaginations and that may account for the increased activity. Jenny stopped playing upstairs as much. She said her friend,
