On one of my many travels through Germany I encountered something really spooky. I was driving on a freeway outside dusseldorf when all of a sudden I saw a very old looking car driving against the traffic at high speed right towards my car.
I didn't have time to react and he hit me head on, I thought this was it for sure. But the other car just flashed through my car and I could see it kept driving down the road in my rear view mirror going right through other cars behind me.

I was shocked so I pulled over by the side of the road. Another driver behind me on the road pulled over as well. He was a local and he knew about this car, they call it the dusseldorf geistfahrer which means ghost driver.

It's the ghost of a car and driver who was killed in a head on collision when he accidentally entered the wrong way to the freeway and hit a truck. It's seen quite often, and supposedly the term ''geistfahrer'' comes from this particular ghost car outside dusseldorf.
