I believe it was in the fall of 2005 (or thereabouts) when my husband and I decided to take a nice drive from a Rochester, NY suburb to a Restaurant on Center Street Rd. , Auburn, NY. It was in the fall - October if memory serves - and the air had a certain bite to it, and it was a beautiful, colorful, sunny day. I hate to say it, but we had a rather unremarkable dinner at the restaurant (something I'd looked forward to for weeks), and in our disappointment, decided we'd better get going before the sun went down in order to make it back to the NY State thruway in the remaining daylight.
So it was still light enough out, but approaching that bewitching hour known as ''dusk. '' It was either on Center Street Road, or Parcell Road (I'm not entirely sure which, being unfamiliar with the area), where it was quite out in the country, when we both spotted something large and black in the rearview and side view mirrors. My husband was driving our truck, and we both remarked on what appeared to be a very tall, dressed in a black trench coat figure on the side of the road behind us.

It / they appeared to be walking in the same direction that we were driving, and on the same side of the road walking with us - yet as we accelerated up to highway speed, the figure kept pace with us. We both strained to see it in greater detail, looking for a face, but the figure appeared to be wearing a hood and we could not decipher any other human qualities. In fact, it also appeared to be anywhere from 8-10 feet tall, possibly more.

As I felt more fearful, I started yelling for my husband to accelerate more, yet the figure in my own side mirror (you know the one: ''objects in mirror are closer than they appear''), actually appeared to grow larger - we weren't leaving it behind! Then it appeared that one figure suddenly morphed into three-seriously! Now we were panicking, and speeding down the road, this figure still filling our mirrors, ambulating SOMEhow right behind us and keeping up with our speeding truck.
Later, I had thoughts of Mothman, Men in Black, aliens, or anything else my imagination gave birth to. It took a few minutes and I'm not sure how far we travelled, but the 3 figures morphed back into one, and the now lone figure finally began to shrink down in the mirror till it was gone. Neither of us could believe that this strange, black-clad figure kept pace with our truck on that country road. We sped all the way home. There was a very distinct feeling of dread, and dare I say ''evil'' during the bizarre encounter. One of the creepiest things I've ever experienced. It still gives me goosebumps.

Comment by Paul: I, my father, and one of my good friends have seen a similar thing where we live in upstate NY outside of Watertown. It was a black cloaked figure that appeared to be very tall. It has floated across the road always near this house that was built in the early 1800s, and sometimes it appears to be carrying a light/lantern of some sort. I don't know what it is, but it scares the hell out of me. Especially that I've seen it on multiple occasions. I even told a girl I was seeing about it, and she called her father. I talked to him on the phone, and he described seeing the same thing in the same location back in the 80s. Pretty creepy.
