and quickly finished up for the night.
Other times, footsteps were heard passing down the long inside hallway when no one could be seen. The kitchen cabinets opened and closed on their own, and soft voices could be heard from empty rooms at the back of the apartment. Most of the activity occurred in the rear rooms of the apartment: the kitchen, pantry and what was originally the maid's room, just off the kitchen. Other times from the inside hallway.

Friends and other visitors also witnessed the activity over the years. The haunting was very ''neutral'', neither friendly nor threatening. Although we

sometimes said a casual ''hello'' when we felt or heard the spirit(s) about, there was never meaningful direct contact by either parties. We simply accepted that we weren't alone, and apparently, we were equally tolerated. We actually enjoyed their presence. I have very fond memories of the years I lived in that building and am very saddened by the state of disrepair into which it has fallen. The city will probably tear it down, like so many other of our
