A few years ago a couple bought a big house on Main St. from a couple who rented rooms. The new owners restored the house to a single family home and started a bed and breakfast. One of the former tenants left behind an altar made of bricks where she practiced black magic.
The room was made into a bedroom for their 2 small children. The children were afraid to sleep in the room and both adults and the hired help often saw a man dressed in 18th century dress clothes, a long frock coat and top hat walking on the second floor of the house.

He even had a shadow but disappeared if one got close. The couple contacted two physics who told them the house was haunted. Later they found out that the train carrying president Lincoln's body passed through town on it's way to Illinois and that the president's coffin and it's guards stayed at the house overnight.

The railroad tracks were located right behind the house. The house has since been sold.

Back in 1978 driving down from Mary Jemison's cabin in Letchworth State Park we witnessed a dark figure walking up the road at around dusk. I was compelled to continue watching this black clothed man with his head somewhat gazing downward .
He and I met eyes and kept contact until I could not longer stay twisted in my seat. I turned forward in disbelief and asked my husband if he had seen the man. When I turned around to look once more he had vanished.
