It only took a few minutes before the footsteps came a third time only now it seemed as if they were running. The knock came to the door then all was silent. My friend had had enough and together she and I went downstairs where her parents and brother all sat watching TV in the living room.
She asked her parents to please tell her brother to stop running by her door and knocking on it. They all looked at her and her mother said no one has been

up there for hours but you, too. We've all been sitting right here the whole time.
She later learned that a boy of about 8-9 had passed away in the

house from scarlet fever. Was he the playful source of the running footsteps and knocking? She and I tend to believe so.
