I lived in Burgettstown, and two of the houses we lived in was haunted. At the Tucker ''mansion'' I saw a woman in one of the rooms and would hear a baby crying. I also saw a fire in the fireplace that didn't work. When we moved to downtown Burgettstown our basement made me sick. There was a guy and often a cat down there. Submitted by anonymous

The area is known to be haunted not really by any particular entity though. I blame it mostly on the brutal lifestyle many had to have throughout the town's history: Native American battles, (deaths from both sides) coal mines collapsing, and slavery and probably lynching's. The school is said by the janitors to be haunted, and I don't doubt it. There are times I've had to be in there to grab my books or something, and I was basically all alone other than the janitors who were on the other half of the school, and something would just feel... Off. Like you were being watched, and then you hear someone behind you call your name, but no one is there. The school doesn't have any known deaths, but it's right over on top of an old mine.
What's really scary are ghosts or whatever they are that reside in most of people's houses. I have always had ''friends,'' and they never really scared me until 3rd grade when I saw a woman walking across my foyer into our dining room. She was tall and blondish. She wore what looked like an old-fashioned white nightgown. She never looked at me. She looked off into my dining room with sad eyes. It was the only time I've seen an entity that clear, which is why I remember it so well. My family believed it to be an angel, but I wasn't so sure. After her appearance things became more menacing toward me, not outright but just little things to make me upset. I ignored it until about 7th grade when it became hard not to. Things would go missing. I would hear people walking on the attic floor, just above my bed at night. I would hear my mom calling to me only to find that she had gone out to the store about an hour ago.
About a year ago I went to bed like any other night and was asleep for probably an hour when I woke up and found that I couldn't move at all. I was soon joined by a low growling voice that called my name. I was terrified. When I finally gained control of my body I was too afraid to move, to leave my room. I worked up the courage and ran to my lamp and turned it on. I didn't dare turn around to where the voice had been coming from. I ran into my mom's room to tell her what had happened. She was half asleep and had to work in the morning, so she wasn't concerned about it and told me to go back to bed. I didn't. The next night my mom had her own experience with the same voice. She wasn't paralyzed like I was, and the next morning we found our dog whimpering in a locked spare room which neither us opened.
