I remember when we would blow a circuit (which happened if we ran more than 2 things in the kitchen at once) you would have to go in the basement to re-set the circuit. When I had to go down there I would be in tears it was so scary.
Dirt floors low ceilings cobwebs and only one eerie ceiling light bulb in each room. And the circuit breaker was in the back of the farthest room. I can honestly say each time I went down

there I felt like I was in a horror movie waiting to happen.
One day my sister was sitting on the steps (there were the steps then a landing then steps

that went into the kitchen on one side and the living room on the other). She was sitting on the landing with her feet on the step below her.
She leaned back and that step came up! The step was filled with shoes!!! The step was hollowed out and used as a cubby for shoes. The shoes that were in there were probably from the 20's-40's old saddle shoes and stuff.
It was soo freaky. And at this point in time my mother and father were trying to get pregnant
