I used to live right at the Susquehanna River. Sometimes when I couldn't sleep I would walk right across the street to go sit down at the river to relax. Most of the time watching the water would relax me enough to walk back home to fall asleep. However, the river did not always make me feel peaceful. One cold night I walked to the river at 2 in the morning to sit down in my favorite spot close to the river. I sat down and noticed a lot of motion further

down from my spot, so I walked down to check out what it was. A young girl, maybe about 9, was drowning in the river. I yelled out to her that I was going

to get help and reached into my pocket to grab my phone, so I could call 911. When I got it out of my pocket to dial, the girl was nowhere to be seen.
I assumed she drowned and felt a pang of sadness and guilt. I was disappointed in myself that I couldn't even save her, but I didn't have much time to feel sorry for her because my grief was interrupted by splashing. The sounds came from back where I was sitting in the first place, so I ran over, hoping it
