Right before we moved, one by one everyone started moving, and once we left there was one girl there in that thirteen-room house. Perhaps she has stories of her own.

I grew up in the Overbrook Farms area. Many of those houses have stories of strange things happening. I babysat for a number of local people, and some rooms I couldn't walk in. The house I grew up in was profoundly populated by ''something. '' I always had issues. My earliest memories are of being terrified to be anywhere alone in my house. I remember always being woken up and screaming. I think a part of me shut down and blocked it for years.

My siblings always mentioned things, and I went in total denial mode, or the ''guests'' gave me a break because I couldn't handle it (maybe. ) As I was older (high school age,) something woke up in the house. I'd see shapes of people on the other side of the shower curtains. I'd scream and wake up the house, but nothing was ever there. I'd be down the basement and pass a shelf when something would randomly fall off behind me. The cat and dog sat vigil at the foot of my bed every night, and many nights the dog would be at full alert with hair standing up. The cat would hiss at the air. It was scary.

My siblings had more nerve than me, and they all at one point had an interaction of sorts with an elderly woman who sat at the foot of their beds and talked to them. She was very nice, but there was something else there that was a bit of a prankster. We'd all be at the dining room table, and whichever sibling made the mistake of going up to the bathroom would have to deal with door knocking. The rest of us heard it every time as it was loud and clear.
Years later when my oldest was young I moved back home with her while I was recovering from an illness. There were little things that happened to remind me why I'm afraid of the dark. One night it was just my daughter, our dog, and I that were home alone. My daughter was playing in her room on the second floor, and I was on the first floor watching a show with the dog. Clear as day we could hear someone, with a voice I'd describe as an elderly woman, was calling her by name from a room at the other end of the hall.
I froze. The dog shook with terror. My daughter called down asking what I wanted. I told her I hadn't called her (still hoping it was in my head) when she got very sassy and replied ''well, someone was calling me. '' We had a slumber party in the living room that night.
