As a teen I lived in a house near the end of the broad Street subway line. It was at that time approximately 85 years old so by now (and it is still standing and in apparently good repair or at least it was as of about 2 years ago) so by now it's approximately 110 years old.
Anyway I lived there with my parents and two younger brothers. One summer day I was alone in the house (I was about 15) sitting at the kitchen table reading a news magazine

(I can't remember if it was time or newsweek--we took them both).
For some reason I looked up to see a figure stading in the back doorway; it was a

Continental soldier. I just looked for a few seconds completely unafraid and then it hit me that this guy was totally not dressed the way we did in the late 1960's.
He smiled then just vanished. Later on when we were grown one of my brothers told me that he'd seen the same figure only it was in the back yard. Now I can't explain this; about all I can figure out is that this yuong man I saw must have been from one of the New England regiments
