I lived on several occasions in the house on Ridge Road in Damascus that my great grandfather built and where my grandmother and great-aunt were born. It is a large farmhouse. I used to sleep in what was originally the first floor parlor when I lived there while I was in college. In the room I lived in there was a full bath added on years earlier for my great grandfather when he could no longer get up and down the stairs. At night I would hear muffled

cries pacing footsteps back and forth along the upstairs hallway, doors opening and shutting, and whispering. Being that the house had been in my family

since the get-go I really did not think I had anything to fear.
One Christmas my great aunt came to visit me while I was living in the house. I accompanied her to my great grandparents and grandmothers' graves to put flowers on them at a nearby church cemetery. While there my aunt put flowers on a small grave that was beside my great grandparents' grave, and I asked her whose grave that was. She told me that it was her little sister's grave
