East new market High School was built on the site of the old town graveyard. In the 1920's and 1830s, one of the unsanctioned student activities included digging into the dirt walls of basement. Many bones were discovered in the old soil.
The spirits of former residents have been roaming around the school ever since.

Comment by Sandra: My mother now lives in the old high school and claims to hear music late at night. The new addition is built where the gym was and many dances would take place there. Actually her apartment is over the old gym.
