When I was six my mother and five sisters moved to an old plantation house in Gastonia. It was a huge house that mom rented cheap. We soon found out why it was haunted. The spirit of our landlady's mother who had died in the house less than a year before was still there. As kids we were terrified and wanted to leave. My mother however had fallen in love with this big old house. She said she understood why this spirit stayed. We also could never afford a house big enough for the seven of us anywhere else so we also stayed. Growing up in a haunted house was interesting to say the least. My mom was deeply spiritual and very open minded about these things. We all had so many experiences with the ghosts over the years. Sometimes we had friends stay over but they never came back.

The radio turning off and on, changing channels, footsteps on the stairs, or seeing her ascend the staircase freaked them out. Here's my list of the things I never got used to, the feeling of being watched, things not being where you left them .

These are things you can brush off as living with six other people and ignore. But walking into a room and seeing her standing there staring back at you is as scary as it sounds. I lived there almost fifteen years and mom stayed over twenty years. I learned a lot about the paranormal and it is possible to peacefully coexist with some spirits. Submitted by Adb
