Our home on Downing Street was nightmare for my family and me. In the Fall of 1976 poltergeist activity seemed to be focused on me when I was eleven years old, and my sister was fifteen. My bed would shake at night, and sheets were often suddenly pulled off my bed. My sister often would awake to feeling her hand held by what seemed to be an old woman. My mother was awaken once by her foot being shaken. Even our family dog seemed to be trouble and would growl at unseen presences at night. Odd smell of perfume which my sister said smelled like 'old lady stuff' filled the air. Door in the house often open and closed without explanation, and I had strange dreams of often feeling myself levitated and floating through a woods behind our house that lead to a cemetery.

The house was blessed by a priest from Saint Pius, but the blessing only knocked off the poltergeist activity for about a week. Often at night I would awake to my sheets being suddenly yanked off and even had a scary and a bit embarrassing experience when sleeping face down and having my underwear suddenly yanked off. Odd smells often would occur during the day. We heard the sound in another room of something having fallen but nothing to be seen. I have no real explanation for much of this other than many young friends of mine often played in a cemetery behind the woods behind our house at Westminster. Maybe something attached itself to us. We also had dabbled in a lot of things we should not have and collected lots of horror comics which we traded along with a large stash of magazines which probably made us some sort of Orgone magnets. Fortunately, the whole episode was over in about four to five months and was gone by the spring of 1977.

The old house still stands though our family moved out of it some 29 years ago. I would be interested in knowing if anyone has experienced anything or anyone in the Downing Street area has any similar experiences. .

Comment by Jim: By the way I would appreciate if anyone knows the history of the 1723 Downing Street property and the woods that once existed behind the house. The area must have had a history as the strange events in the house extended to stories to the back woods where strange stories of Willow the Wisp were seen back in the 1950s by an area now gone once called 'haunted pools' along a creek area.
Any information would be appreciated as I am still after 40 years trying to make sense of all of this.
Comment by Jim: Follow-up. I was able to trace down some history about the woods. It appears it was originally owned by the Davis family who got the property in the very early 20th century. Back in the woods was what we took as an old stone fort but which was more likely a spring house.
The Davis family supposedly had several boys who played in those woods. Who had the land before then and it's history are unknown. The question is was the poltergeist or ghostly activity brought in from the cemetery or something on the property?.
