Comment by Tom's: Downing Street and the surrounding area is part of the Revolutionary battlefield between Nathaniel Greene and Lord Cornwallis. Evidence of mass graves are still discovered in the area outside of the military park.

I lived on the corner of High Point Road and Alamance Road across the former Jefferson Pilot Property. I used to see a man dressed like a gas station attendant from the 1940s, with a grey overall and black hair (I must have seen him a total of seven times from 1991-1992. ) It looked as if he were to walk from my room (which was directly on the street side) towards HP road (towards the street. ) He walked as if he was on a mission to get somewhere. He never made eye contact with me. He never did anything evil. I got used to it. After three times seeing this, it did not scare me anymore.
The problem is that during the time I lived there, an accident happened directly on High Point Road right in front of my house claiming the life of three innocent people in different cars. I was eating dinner when the police came to ask for a PHONE! (I guess cell phones were not popular then. ) In any case I could not bring myself to tell the police that perhaps they had seen a ghost and gotten scared. This was in October or November of 1992. I moved in 1993. The painter who was prepping the house told me to find some other painter, because he kept seeing a grey shadow inside my house, and he was scared! I wonder if the current residents of that house have noticed anything unusual there. In those days we did not have twitter, or YouTube. We could have posted there for evidence.
