It has been said that in 1968, in Newton, NC, 8 days before Halloween a young couple, who were very much in love, were out for a ride late in the evening. Some ghastly creature lunged in front of their car and young John crashed the car into a tree. His love, a gentle and lovely young girl named Samantha was thrown from the car. When the ambulances arrived John was found with severe cuts and bruises and nearly out of his mind. The EMT's tried to get him into the ambulance, but he kept screaming about the love of his life, Samantha. The woods, encompassing a fairly large area, were searched by Catawba County deputies and the Newton Police.
There were no traces of Samantha. John went into shock and was in a coma for 2 days. When he came out of the coma, all he could do was scream Samantha's name. He was committed to Broughton Hospital after trying to commit suicide. It is said that he is still in the mental institution and is committed to the belief that Samantha still lives. There have been sightings of the creature that caused John to lose control of his car. The sightings are always 8 days before Halloween and usually happen on roads that run through wooded areas in Newton.

I used to live with my grandma and grandpa with my mom and two brothers, and it would always seem stuff would happen there. You'd go into the basement by yourself and feel someone watching you. It always made me run upstairs. There was this cubby hole thing in the hallway, and you could put stuff in it. Well my family was there, I was eating dinner when it all of a sudden opens up, and all the stuff fell out of it. BUT the creepiest thing that happened was when I was in the living room watching a DVD. I went up to my brother's room, he asked me if I had heard a noise. I said no, but when I went downstairs I did. It was right next to the living room wall, at my bedroom wall.
