Comment by Lucinda: My mom grew up in those mill houses. I believe she lived in the first or second house. My grandma and grandpa actually worked at the Sock mill. They also used to go down to the river below the mill to get water. My mom and her 7 other brothers and sisters used to have to bathe in those big metal tubs because I don't know if you noticed or not, but they didn't have any kind of bathrooms in the houses, so my grandma used to fill the metal tub up with water and sit it in front of the fireplace and heat the water up that way. They aren't slave houses at all, but there were African Americans that did live in the houses too, and they worked in the mill. I've heard many many stories about the old mill and the land surrounding it.

There is a story that the old high school is haunted. People say that one of the students was insane she said that she could see demons in the school. No one believed her. One day she went crazy and murdered everyone in her gym class. When one of the teachers came to see were the screaming came from.
