My father told me of the same story of the lady on the bridge years ago in the seventies when he was stationed at Shaw Air Force base. He went down there to go to work, and it was raining one night. He saw a lady walking with a suitcase, and he thought she needed a ride. She said that she was trying to get to her sister's house. My father said she was on the bridge. By the time we came to the end of that bridge she was not in the car. He stopped his

car. He said it was the scariest thing he had ever seen. He cannot believe he just picked up a ghost. Submitted by Patricia

I was driving westbound from Sumter SC headed towards Columbia around 9:30 pm. Me and my stepson witnessed what appeared to be what I best describe as a Caucasian woman with a dark grey cloud like body in a white long sleeved dress walking on the right side of the highway towards Columbia but she was at least 3ft down on a slant walking at a smooth pace in the rain. It was by far the creepiest $### I've ever witnessed. It's real and it's something on that highway that makes me question traveling that road especially at night now. Comment by Mike: The swamp woman has long been said to be the ghost of a young woman who was killed in an automobile accident on the bridge when the structure was new apparently about 1940. There are many well-documented sightings.
