In 1982 or 83 I was driving from Myrtle Beach Air Force Base to the Piedmont of North Carolina. I worked second shift on the flight line at the air base and so, when I drove through Marion it was usually in the early morning hours. That was also before the 501 bypass went around downtown Marion so, all 501 traffic went right through Marion.
One night, after midnight, I was driving through Marion and I stopped for a red light. Across the intersection

a man appeared standing in the middle on the road looking pretty insane. He was staring right at me. When the light turned green I eased up to the man,

cut the wheel to the left and floored the car in an attempt to get around the man. As I drove past he dove onto my car except that it made no sound at all and he just disappeared into thin air. I looked in the rear view mirror as I drove away and there was no one there.
The intersection was well lit by streetlights and I would have seen anyone in the area but, there was no one there. I have looked to see if anyone else has ever reported a similar
