I have lived in Pelion most of my life. This place is ripe with supernatural phenomena. One of the most haunted places in town is actually not a house or building. It is the North Edisto River. In the days before modern logging operations, horses were used to drag logs to the river. Then the logs would be floated down stream for processing at a mill. However, the river is narrow and men were employed to travel with the logs to break up log jams.

night two men were camping near a fire after a day of this exhausting work. As they sat near the fire down deep in the swamp, the screams of a woman could

be heard over the sounds in the dark. Certain that she was being violated or killed, they set out to find and rescue her. As they made their way through the woods, screams grew louder. Finally, they rounded a bend in the river, and they found the source of the screams. Standing on the end of a timbered log was a figure of a woman. The figure was screaming, but the sounds were not coming from her head. Of course the men ran from fear of what they saw
