About ten years ago my family and I rented a cottage in Chincoteague called the ''felicitous fig''. As of now it's still being rented out but I cannot find anyone talking about any experiences there which surprises me. We were there for about four nights and the first night was fine. We were exhausted and I was sleeping with my sister on the pull-out couch in the living room with our heads at the window feet pointing toward the dining room. I slept through the night and was kind of relieved since the house was relatively dark due to the wood paneling which made me uneasy but probably only because it was dark at night. However the second night I woke up in the middle of the night completely uneasy. I felt like there was something else in the room and actually did look around but could not see anything. I wear glasses and everything was blurry anyway but nothing moved no shadows etc.
I could not shake the feeling though and huddled closer to my sister. I tried shutting my eyes and pulling the covers over my head but that just made me even more scared like something was coming closer. I found that if I kept my eyes on the lamp next to my side of the couch which we had kept on I felt a little better. I did not want to look in the dining room. I started praying and eventually fell asleep never turning back from the lamp.
The next day I was using the laptop in the main bedroom upstairs. I was sitting on the bed and facing the door of a small closet on the other side of the room. I was alone and just checking email when I noticed the closet door opening like there was a breeze even though the fan and a / c were not on and the windows were closed. Luckily there was a duffel bag in front of it so it did not open more than two inches. I calmly logged out of my email and ran downstairs. Later when my mom was in that same room with me I walked over to ''check out'' the closet. It was completely empty except for a little child's chair and the window in there was shut and locked. The other two nights I felt just as uneasy but I at least knew where to look and how to fall asleep. The only place I felt safe in that house was in the downstairs bathroom/laundry room which was a late addition and not part of the original house. The house was owned by an old lady who died there. I do not think she ever left.

We stayed in a rental home on main st, Chincoteague, VA July 1978 and there was a man in uniform (we called him the general) in one upstairs bedroom. No one would go up there again. .
