Comment by James: It went something like that. I know because my uncle was a small boy and with the man that fired his gun. The story is somewhat different. My family lived there also.

The story goes that a group of young people decided to go horse back riding along the railroad tracks now known as the new River trail. They were planning on attending there prom either that day or in a few days.
|
Somewhere along the tracks (which run parallel to the main road) a car past and spooked the girls horse and it threw her from the horse. The girl was taken to twin county regional and pronounced dead. When her family returned home he father took a rifle to the barn and shot the horse. The girl was buried in her prom gown and the horse was buried the same day. Later on the local sheriff and the owner of a local restaurant were standing outside the corner restaurant on Main Street when they saw someone riding down the tracks when they looked to see who it could be so late at night they realized it was the young girl who had died and she stopped and looked at them then vanished.
There are two version one that says she was in her prom gown another that she was still wearing the clothes she had on when she died. When asked about this sighting both men refused to comment but would not deny the story either.
